The meteorological and air quality sensors on the multi-functional smart lampposts collect weather and environmental data in the vicinity such as temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction and rainfall, as well as the concentration of nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and PM2.5. These information will be disseminated to the public as open data via the Public Sector Information Portal (data.gov.hk) and the City Dashboard for their reference.

Moreover, the multi-functional smart lampposts collect data at district level which enhance meteorological monitoring and forecasting of microclimate. Microclimate refers to the specific climatic conditions within a small area (such as street, park and riverside). The climatic characteristics of an area may differ from the larger areas around.

The multi-functional smart lampposts serve as a suitable street facility for installing 5G base stations, facilitating the roll-out of 5G network, and the provision of free Wi-Fi service.

5G technology offers efficient mobile broadband services for consumers, supports ultra-reliable low-latency communications and massive machine-type communications (i.e. Internet of Things (IoT)) as well as other innovative applications. 5G network is undoubtedly one of the pivotal telecommunications infrastructures to enhance Hong Kong’s position as a regional communication hub, and provide an impetus for our future economic development.

The multi-functional smart lampposts also help provide free public Wi-Fi service via “Wi-Fi.HK”. “Wi-Fi.HK” is a common Wi-Fi brand established by the Government and some public and private organisations which assists citizens and tourists to find and use free public Wi-Fi service in Hong Kong.

Public Sector Information Interface

City data collected by the multi-functional smart lampposts will be released free of charge through the “data.gov.hk” portal, facilitating the development of innovative applications by the public and industry.

City Dashboards derived from the open data provide the public with a real-time overview of the latest information of the city in various areas, including environment, weather, and road traffic.

The Thermal Detector and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) (under testing) on the multi-functional smart lampposts adopt privacy-friendly solution to provide real-time traffic data such as traffic flow and average vehicle speed, and identify different types of vehicles for a more comprehensive grasp of the traffic conditions. It allows effective traffic management and facilitates travel planning for members of the public.

Through the puzzle game and the videos, members of the public can have a better understanding of various applications of the Multi-functional Smart Lamppost.


How to Play:

  • The goal is to assemble a complete picture with the puzzle pieces within the time limit.
  • There are 2 difficulty levels for the game, namely the “Simple” level (with 9 puzzle pieces for completion within 30 seconds) and the “Difficult” level (with 25 puzzle pieces for completion within 90 seconds).

Operation:

  • Desktop Computer – Hold down the left button of the mouse on a puzzle piece and drag it to the suitable location.
  • Smart Phone or Tablet – Use the fingertip to drag a puzzle piece to the suitable location.

Instructions:

“Matching Smart Lamppost Devices in Pairs”


Through the matching pairs game and the introduction of the Smart Lamppost 3D model, members of the public can understand more about the smart devices and equipment installed on smart lampposts.

How to Play:

  • The goal is to match all picture cards in pairs within the time limit.
  • There are 2 difficulty levels for the game, namely the “Simple” level (matching 16 picture cards within 45 seconds) and the “Difficult” level (matching 20 picture cards within 2 minutes).
  • Flip over any picture card to show a device picture on its face and then flip over another one until two cards with the same device picture are paired. All successfully paired picture cards will be kept open until all device pictures are paired or when the time is up.


Operation:

  • Desktop Computer – Left click the mouse to flip over a picture card.
  • Smart Phone or Tablet – Tap on a picture card with fingertip to flip it over.
